Our 20 month old Westie has just been diagnosed with liver shunt…?

Thursday, May 13th, 2010

anyone have any experience with this? You have to try? How difficult was the dog? And what was it? We are in southwestern Ontario, and then very close to the veterinary school in Guelph, which is good, but my little man does not travel well, and our vet told us, without being very specific, it would be very expensive. Any input appreciated.

Sunday, May 2nd, 2010

Everyone has an idea of what your dream house will look like. Purchase of a building or a new home is an exciting time and a major life investment. When you are looking for a dream house, people will focus on important aspects such as home home design, floor plans, number of bedrooms and bathrooms, size of rooms and closets, and other special functions such as lighting and wiring . Who Else Want to Visit Florence Italy?

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Once a great center of Renaissance Florence, Florence Italy is one of the finest architectural and artistic heritage of the world, with countless museums and galleries in Florence, full of masterpieces, and with restaurants and food shops.
Florence from the Etruscan period in Fiesole, an important center in Etruria, dominated the valley. The Romans conquered the city in 59 BC C., who set up camp along the river Arno in a place that became known as Florentia, “destined to flourish”. During the course of the next thousand years, a small town struggled under successive Byzantine, Gothic, Lombard and Frankish rule. The number of residents has begun to grow since the tenth century, the city is governed by an autonomous municipality since 1115. But the city soon became a battleground in the violent conflict between factions and pro-imperial Ghibellines pro-papal Guelphs. However, a sound commercial basis, based on wool and backed by a strong currency (the forint) has seen the city grow slowly.
Century 13, a merchant elite ruled Florence Italy. Albizi powerful families as the Medici and then came to dominate the city. This oligarchy interrupted by waves of republican government – influenced by the likes of radical first noble Dominican Savonarola and Machiavelli – Florence grew ever stronger and richer.
E ‘in this period when Florence was its role in European history and world history, especially in Florence. Experts in the banking and commerce (the Medici family funded many of the adventures he has opened new trade routes around the world), the city has grown spectacularly wealthy. The families flaunt their wealth, and the money was paid in the sponsorship of art Florence. The city has become a home to sculptors, artists, architects and musicians. While scholars have rediscovered the rich literature and culture of ancient Greece and Rome, Europe has begun to emerge from the Middle Ages, in the meantime the likes of Michelangelo, Donatello and Brunelleschi, as well as many others whose works adorn Florence in Italy today, have been pushing the boundaries of creativity and artistic creation increasing heights. The literal explosion of an intellectual power and creativity of the city has seen a new generation of radical thinkers, and disseminate their ideas through new media. During this time, experience, increasing the Florentines “in banking, accounting, and credit creation has witnessed the whole system to enrich themselves. Florence, it is often said, was the cradle of Europe.
Florence Italy next part of the Grand Duchy of Tuscany, but in mid-1700 the city was consumed by Austria. In 1859 he was swallowed by the Kingdom of Sardinia-Piedmont and Tuscany, just two years later to correct some of the new country of Italy. For six years (to Rome joined the European Union), Florence, Italy was actually the capital of Italy. 20th Century Florence prospered on the back of tourism, financial services, heavy industry and its old staple – trade. Occupied by the Germans between 1943 and 1944, the city suffered the misfortune of the floods in 1966 when the Arno burst its banks.
Walking through the narrow winding streets, it is difficult to identify this city with a single symbol. It may be the sculpture of David by Michelangelo, or perhaps the romantic Ponte Vecchio, or Giotto’s bell tower. Furthermore, Florence is also synonymous with celebrities such as Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo and Dante Alighieri, to name a few.
Also, of course, is the famous “Duomo” which is perhaps the most recognizable monument of Florence. The construction of the Gothic cathedral of Florence, Santa Maria del Fiore, begun in 1296 and was completed by Brunelleschi in 1436 with the famous cathedral, which was painted inside with frescoes by Vasari and Zuccari. The square bell tower designed by Giotto in 1334, is located on the right side of the Florence Cathedral and is covered in white, green and red marble. The Baptistery of San Giovanni, one of the oldest monuments in Florence (1128), is located opposite the Cathedral and is built in Florentine Romanesque style.
Today, although most of the greatness of Florence, Florence is a fascinating history, the city still thrives. It has wonderful shopping, parks and gardens and spacious, excellent food, exciting atmosphere and artistic amazing views over the surrounding landscape.
After admiring the works of artists and sculptors of the churches, galleries and museums like the Uffizi and Accademia, you can stroll along the famous luxury boutiques, watch artisans at work in traditional leather goods, and take many lively street markets. You can eat at the finest restaurants or taverns with simple home cooking. Or buy the ingredients for a picnic in the picturesque outdoor Central Market, the market of Sant’Ambrogio. Grab a bottle of Chianti, and take a trip to the Boboli Gardens or on the ramparts of Fort Belvedere, with its impressive views.
Florence, Italy has an infinite charm. There is nothing in the world like him.

Keep On Wheelin

Monday, December 14th, 2009

As much as individuals in a wheelchair live ordinary lives, the issues of accessibility always seem to make an appearance. Even the simplest of things – such as everyday transportation – can be a burden without the proper services. That’s why I was excited to hear about the newly equipped taxicabs that are helping to expand the transportation possibilities for those with limited mobility.

A newly passed city policy in Louisville, KY (and many other cities across the U. S. and Canada) now requires any taxicab services, with more than 25 cars in its fleet, to have a small percentage that are wheelchair-accessible. I realize that this is far from opening up widespread transportation opportunities, but we can agree that it’s definitely a step in the right direction.

The accessible taxicabs will be specially designed with a ramp or a wheelchair lift for full accessibility. The cabs will be able to accommodate one passenger in a wheelchair plus two additional passengers. This is great news for those requiring transportation outside the hours of normal public bus service.

Information on transportation and accessibility for disabled travelers is one of the main topics covered by Robert Bennett, a writer for thewheelchairsite. com – an online informational guide to electric and manual wheelchairs, scooters, mobility accessories, and wheelchair news in general. Recently the website has been overhauled, and it now sports a brand new more user-friendly design, complete with interactive blogs and a more interactive reader mailbag where you can post your questions or comments.

The Enabled Traveler, a blog devoted to accessible travel is also interactive. Robert Bennett writes his column to fellow travel enthusiasts with physical limitations. He is a dedicated social worker who devotes much of his time to writing publications on the topic of disability. Each week he offers new helpful information on everything you need to know to make traveling a successful experience. Think of him as your own personal travel expert, providing accessibility information on airports, hotels, trains, buses, and popular vacationing destinations. If you love to travel, then be sure to check out this fantastic new blog.

The Wheels in the City Column has also been transformed into an interactive blog, where readers can now post their comments and share their own stories. Chantal Huinink, writer of Wheels in the City, writes about the joys and troubles she faces each day concerning living life in a wheelchair. Born with spastic quadriplegic cerebral palsy, Chantal uses an electric wheelchair. She is a psychology student at the University of Guelph, and enjoys sharing her stories, witty humor, and her adventures with readers.

Be sure to visit and become a part of the newly designed, interactive community at thewheelchairsite. com.
